...but today could officially see the end of some regular WC participants and expected "sure qualifiers":
Czech Republic Croatia Sweden Turkey (remember their recent semi-final run?) Argentina Nigeria Egypt (not regular WC participants but the reigning African champs) Costa Rica I also saw where Spain's team Dr has ruled Torres as "unfit" to play.  --------------------   Yes that IS Bob Paisley sitting in front of Redyankee |

Halftime of most matches and the ONLY slight intrigue is a slim 1-0 Portugal lead with Sweden's 3 points well in hand. If Malta can manage to turn this tie around in the second half...

Uraguay are dominating Argentina for the moment - but as a n Argentinian girl told me earlier 'The Fat Man has God on his side.'
On another slightly related note I hope that Gordon Brown is watching the situation very carefully because if they don't qualify we'd better have a decent force in the South Atlantic next summer.  --------------------  |

I wouldn't say that they were in control but they did look the more likely to score. Still a world cup without the Argies wouldn't be the same somehow - but once, just once, I'd like to find out how it would differ!!! -------------------- |
