A great result against estonia but did anyone expect any less.
The second half was a snore fest and I was not surprised to see the fans heading for the exits with 10 minutes to go.
England will need to play a lot better on Wedneday.
Negatives.
Second half was a total non event. Often games go this way when a team is so dominant but estonia were there for the taking and England could have had a real confidence boost before the russian game with a few more goals.
Our Central midfield is still a problem. I thought Barry wasn't great and Gerrard really needs to start performing or maybe people will start booing him instead of Lampard. Their is really no other options in the middle that are up to the job imnho so Gerrard really needs a good run of good performances.
Positives.
Wingers. Our wingers really seem to be playing well. SWP and Cole whilst not seeing enough of the ball played really well in the first half.
Micah Richards. Garry who? Richards is really staking his claim to be first choice in the England RB spot even though he doesn't play there for his club. and at the rick of upsetting my northwestern cousins take note Jamie Carragher.
A goal for Rooney. Whilst not a classic for of a FFL special Rooney needed that goal even if to silence some of the critics he has had over recent weeks. He may not be the grea-*test*-('") footballer eveer as some radio presenters on talksport might believe but I still think he is our most likely route to success in a majot tournament.
3 - 0 win and a win against Russia sees us into Euro 2008 so whilst I sound really pessemistice today this was an important result carried out in a professional manner. Mclaren gets to keeps his job and with any luck we can have another press hype frenzy in the summer followed by diappointment in the quater finals which I and a few others will continue to say is pretty good for England who when over hyped look like world beaters but in the cold light of an objective opinion are nothing more than a good side.
I was surprised that Barry got MOTM, I thought there were other players that played better than him, i.e Micah, Rooney, SWP and Joe Cole.
Gerrad had a decent game, nothing special, just decent, he did have those times when he made a poor decision. However, his passes was good enough, especially in the first half when he gave in an excellent through ball to Owen (very unfortunate he was offside, because he wasn't).
Owen looks unfit, so he needs to get fit.
