MILAN, Italy (AP) - Genoa, Italy's oldest soccer club, was relegated Wednesday from Serie A to the third division for match-fixing.

The Italian soccer league's disciplinary commission found the club guilty of sporting fraud for fixing its final match of last season against Venezia. Genoa won 3-2 and was promoted from Serie B to Italy's top league.

Genoa was also docked three points at the start of next season, and Enrico Preziosi resigned as president after he was banned for five years.

Venezia managing director Franco Dal Cin and general manager Giuseppe Pagliara were also banned for five years.

The league did not immediately name the team which would replace Genoa in Serie A, pending an appeal by the club.

Founded in 1893, Genoa topped the Serie B standings last season and returned to Serie A after 10 years.

After reading the book The Miracle of Castel di Sangrol I think that this not that uncommon of an event in the lower divisions of Italian football, just seems Genoa got caught.
