Barry Ferguson believes he made a mistake when he quit Rangers for Blackburn Rovers.
And he is determined to make amends to fellow Rangers fans who believe he let them down by moving to England.

"I'm man enough to own up - I made a mistake 18 months ago by leaving," said the Scotland midfielder.

"I know some fans aren't happy that I have come back and it's up to me to show them on a Saturday afternoon how much I want to be back."

Ferguson's decision to quit the Premiership for a return to Scottish football has led to his ambition being questioned.

But he insists he has made the right choice this time, after rejoining on a deal that could rise to £5m depending on appearances.

"I can understand people saying I lack ambition, but three and a half weeks ago, when I knew Rangers were interested, there was only one place I wanted to go," he said, adding that he thought he would be welcomed back by most fans.

"I knew there were two or three other clubs interested in doing something with Blackburn, but Rangers made it clear how much they wanted me and the only thing I wanted to do was come back here."

Ferguson was paraded along with fellow new signing Ronald Waterreus and both could make their debuts in Wednesday's CIS Cup semi-final against Dundee United.

The former Manchester City and PSV Eindhoven goalkeeper was snapped up after Stefan Klos was ruled out for the remainder of the season with cruciate knee ligament damage.

But Ferguson, who was captain during his last Ibrox spell, has assured Klos that he has no designs on the captaincy of the club.

"As far as the captaincy goes, Stefan is the captain and I was very sorry to hear about his injury," he said.

"That means that Alex Rae is the captain now and I am perfectly happy with that.

"It was great to be captain of Rangers and Blackburn, but I am not interested in taking the armband back from him."

Klos has arguably been Rangers' most consistent and influential player for the last couple of seasons, but Waterreus is relishing the challenge of standing in for the German.

"It is definitely not going to be easy, but I have no fears," he said.

Back to the safety of the scottish league having found out your not such the big shot you thought you where.

I like Ferguson as a player and im sure he will settle in well second time around, dont forget that he suffered a lot of injuries since he moved south and never really got the chance to show what he can really do.
