The number of clubs involved in the Premier League is set to increase by two from next season, following play-off matches at the end of the current campaign.

As stated in The FA Women's Premier League Handbook, the system for promotion and relegation will differ from the usual format at the end of this season.

The winners of both the Northern and Southern Divisions will be promoted to the National Division.

Two play-off matches will take place between the two bottom placed teams in the National Division and the runners-up in the Northern and Southern Divisions.

A draw will be made to determine which National Division team will play the Northern Division team and which will play the Southern team.

The winners of these play-off matches will play in the National Division the following season.

The bottom two teams in the Northern and Southern Divisions shall be relegated and will be replaced by the teams nominated by the four Combination Leagues.

More teams at the top can only be a good thing surely, although it will likely dilute the league at first which might backfire a bit in terms of popularity... Should soon pick up though as those extra two clubs are given the initiative to develop and invest, seeing as they've made it into the top flight.

More oppotunities for individual players to get recognition they deserve and strenthen the league in that way initially, and it'll hopefully develop further in the long-term to lead to a stronger league which appeals more to spectators. Gives hope of some teams leading the focus out of the capital as well which is good.
