I have to put my national rivalry aside for the cup because I always route for the underdog so come on you Bluebirds. TalkFootball/cheerleader.gif

Mr Parr- 05-09-2008
I'm not fussed who wins.

I want them both to win wacko.gif

a) Pompey because I'd like to see 'Arry finally get his hands on some silverware

b) Cardiff as it'll be a fantastic achievement by such a tiny club to win the most famous domestic cup in the world.

Either way, it will be the pinnacle of most of the players' and fans' footballing lives and hopefully it will be reflected in the football we see ............. rather than the massive anti-climax it usually is.

Go Pompey.

Redyankee- 05-15-2008
Has it been sorted out whether Cardiff would be permitted to play from "England" in the UEFA Cup?

Mr Parr- 05-15-2008
Yep, it was sorted out a couple of weeks ago.

If Cardiff win then they're in Europe.

IMO they shouldn't be allowed though. It's been well known for a very long time that if any Welsh team wants to qualify for Europe through a cup competition then they can only do it through the Welsh version of it.

MartyrToTheCause- 05-15-2008
I believe Cardiff should be allowed to play in Europe if they do win the Cup. They have played in the English football league for as long as they've been in existence, the fact that in recent years (only in the last 10-15) there has been a Welsh Premier League is neither here nor there. If the English FA had a problem with Cardiff (and the other Welsh teams who play in the English football leagues, including down the system as far as Merthyr) playing in their leagues then they should have kicked us all out. But they didn't. So the debate is null and void, they play in the English leagues, so they represent the English leagues. It's fairly simple...

Good luck to 'em.

TalkFootball/OMG!.gif Looking at the two last posts on here i expected to agree with mr p....but blink.gif

Well said Kev cos i know how much you dislike Cardiff....If they win they will try their hardest in europe but won't get far, not by a long shot...theres teams outside the English leagues allowed in and they play shite in europe to you know rolleyes.gif

Kicking us welsh out of your stuck up english 92 is the only way to go...

I have to agree with MTTC.
Only because then you lot will maybe stop carping on about the rules being changed in the CL for Liverpool to qualify from 5th place. TalkFootball/thumbsup2.gif TalkFootball/thumbsup2.gif

Edit for a typo and to just say......is this the first time myself Saj and MTTC have agreed on anything??? TalkFootball/lol.gif TalkFootball/lol.gif TalkFootball/lol.gif

It is shocking, but we are all in agreement!

I agree with Scott, if Cardiff do go into the UEFA Cup chances are they'll get knocked out in the qualifying round, maybe the 1st Round. They aren't the first team at Championship level to play in the UEFA Cup, Millwall lost to the Hungarian team Ferencváros back in 2004/05.

I have a funny feeling Ipswich were relegated to the Championship but still managed to qualify for the UEFA Cup through the fair play league, and played in the UEFA Cup in the Championship.

I don't think the English FA will kick the Welsh teams out, they have no reason to do so. There's an on-going debate regarding the Welsh non-league teams, should we play in the League of Wales, or continue as we have done. The LOW is rubbish, I'd rather travel to crap-holes such as Hitchin Town with the hope of one day getting back into the Conference, than switch to the LOW. I know there's the argument 'ah yes, but you can qualify for Europe/the Champions League by playing in the Welsh leagues' - yeah, we'd play in the 1st Qualifying Round of the CL and get hammered by some Eastern European team. No thanks!

I'll take our FA Cup runs each year, we make more money that way than any journeys into Europe would make for us. Look what happened to Barry Town. A prime example of how not to do it!

Also, for the record I was also in agreement with the decision to put Liverpool in the CL when they won it and finished 5th in the league! The champions of any tournament should always be given the opportunity to defend it, it's only right.
