Steve McClaren has finally shown what he's made of and recalled David Beckham, proving that he's pretty much a media puppet. after the World Cup the media says 'Beckham must go! Beckham must go! he's past it! forget about him...' so Beckham was gone - now it's 'Beckham's world class, his form is excellent, Beckham should be in the squad!' - and guess what? he is! I think it's a major blow to Aaron Lennon and a blow for England moving onto new things. Beckham's done his time, why is he back now? can't England beat Estonia without him? are they that worried?!

apart from that, there's a couple of surprise inclusions, Shorey of Reading's had a good season, Bentley's done well for Blackburn. fair play to both of them...

Evolution- 05-26-2007
I'm delighted to see David Bentley selected, he's had a very impressive season for Blackburn, and in some ways he is the natural replacement to David Beckham on the right hand side.

No Gareth Barry again though. Had a great game last night I thought, so expected him to be selected.

MartyrToTheCause- 05-26-2007
David Bentley's had a good season, don't really see him as a 'natural successor to Beckham' though. don't see him ever nailing down an England shirt, long term... unless of course he can do what Joe Cole did, and get the left midfield role... I see Bentley more like a Joe Cole, than a Beckham...

i look forward to seeing becks again brazil

Beckham has returned to better form since the WC so I am not surprised given that England have not done as well as they would expect.

Beckham's club form has been great of late, and Lennon is injured, so where's the problem?

McLaren was right to drop him when he had a rubbish world cup and had been dropped by his club, but equally he is right to bring him back now.

but by that reckoning alot of other players shouldve been dropped for england as well

Dan1976- 05-29-2007
Rio Ferdinand and Michael Dawson have pulled out as well, according to the BBC. Looks like Carragher will get a call up as a result

Understandably shelved when his form dipped. Understandably reinstated when he came on again.

I would worry about what could happen to his form after a summer full of MLS. TalkFootball/loopy.gif

still think he deserves a chance even when he does move, performance level might not drop after all its not like the performance level of the majority of the england side is anything to shout about when they play for there country

Evolution- 05-30-2007
Is it wrong of me to want England to lose/draw in Tallinn next Wednesday? I really hope by next Thursday, England are on the search for a new manager!

The call-up of David Beckham, regardless of form, was a move made by a desperate man. It's hardly like Becks is setting the world alight with his sparkling form at Madrid. It's solid play, but it's no better than the average form he's been putting in since he moved to Madrid.

Great to see Shorey and Bentley called up. TalkFootball/35.gif

I see Phil Neville's still hanging on in there though. TalkFootball/frusty.gif
