Full Version : England, and Sky Sports

as someone who refuses to pay Sky's extortionate rates for the full package - what is it these days, £45?! rip off!
anyway, as someone who refuses to pay that - my question/debate is this: should England's games even be on Sky Sports, or should they be on (Extra!) Terrestial tv, BBC or ITV, or something like that. England games should be something everyone has access to, not just those with a full subscription to Rip Off TV.
I know the BBC have the rights to the home England games, but the away ones are always on Sky Sports, which p*sses me off no end!
what do you all think?

I think Wales games are still shown on S4C, if you want to watch 'em... in the old Iechyd Da language, if you can understand that!
and in answer to your question, I have always watched England's games, I got up at ungodly hours to watch the World Cup 2002 games in Japan and South Korea - about 3 years before I met Geraldine... so I don't think she's got anything to do with it!
I've never watched Wales much, last time I watched them over a period of time was leading up to the 1994 World Cup, when we almost qualified, and had to beat Romania in the last qualifying game to get there - the numpty left back Paul Bodin hit the crossbar from the spot, one of the worst penalties of all time. since then I've not really been bothered - if Ryan Giggs can't be bothered to turn up for games, why should we bother to watch?!

So MTTC,
Did you bravely watch the team from the land of the Green Green Valleys....or did you struggle through the snore fest that was Isreal versus England???
Just one extra comment to make..........Andy Johnson should never be in an England squad never mind the friggin team

.......what a complete waste of space he brought nothing to the attack force of the team and Defoe did better in his limited time than Johnson did in his starting position.
Evolution- 03-24-2007
All I've got to say is McClaren out ASAP.
okanaganboy- 03-24-2007
Against my better judgement I watched this piece of sh!t game on the net..As woeful as Israel looked England couldn't break them down.
Can we have a manager now please...

I watched the first half of the England game, didn't see much of the Wales game, besides what they showed of it just before the England game. good goal by Stephen Ireland, classy finish. possible penalty for Wales on 90 minutes, but it looked like Ireland deserved the 3 points anyway, so it's all good.
as for England's first half performance, it was pretty much like recent performances under McClaren, completely dour and clueless! the only thing that made me watch the entire first half was Lennon, where he ran at their defence a couple of times, but even his performance wasn't great.
I agree with you on the subject of Johnson, to be honest. he's a goal-scorer at domestic level, but he doesn't really have what it takes to be an international centre forward, you need more than blistering pace to scare an international defence. as they say "the first half yard is in your head" - if you don't have it up there, there's no hope... and frankly most of the England team fall into the category of not having it.
when the commentator said in the first hald "England deserve to be in front here..." I thought WHY?!!?! I mean besides his obvious bias, why did England deserve to be in front? the keeper didn't have to make a save of note. it's another example of us and the media putting an exalted status on players who don't deserve it.

After Sven, I didn't think it was possible for England to be anymore inept..............step forward Steve (the ginger twat) McLaren..............
I wont labour my dislike for this clown, but his desire to persist with 'his favourites' will be his undoing.............and it can't come quick enough for me......
I can only hope that the next incumbent (FA arselicker) has seen where the pitfalls lie and disbands this clique of self-inflated, self-seeking "superstars" and builds a TEAM............
I can dream, cant I?

Unfortunately Dunc it just that a dream.
I can't see us having a decent national manager/coach in the near future and definately not one with the balls to pick the right team for the right game.
Even then whoever he(or she)is won't please everyone even if they win, win, win.

The England games are always on Pay-Per-View over here, and I haven't bothered to pay to watch England since the end of the World Cup. I save my money for the FA Cup and league games
VickyTheGooner- 03-26-2007
Should have known it would be a waste of time. Didn't watch the game due to decorating my mum's kitchen, but I wish i'd switched the set top box to BBC Northern Ireland and watched them instead... a great game by all accounts, with five second half goals!!!

fair play to Northern Ireland and Lawrie Sanchez though - with limited resources they have put together a team that can make a fist of international qualifying. they put the current England squad to shame.

Just like to mention, I broke down and paid the $25 to watch the England game today. It'd better be worth it
