Carling Cup Winners 2007.

didn't see the game, but I'm glad Arsenal didn't win... ha ha! TalkFootball/rofl1.gif

I always like to see the team that's knocked us out get beaten, so it's all good.

Evolution- 02-25-2007
Fabregas will get severely reprimanded by the FA for that, will probably receive more than a 3 game suspension I would think. He maybe wise beyond his years but he's still very petulant. Same for Adebyour.

Disgusting behaviour from both sides, but the way the Arsenal players reacted superseded the Chelsea players.

Also lets hope JT's injury too serious.

Exactly what did Adebayor do?

Stupid biased tripe as usual. FYI the fracas started when Mikel tugged on Toure, not vice versa. If anything, if Fabregas deserved a red why not Lampard? Oh I forgot Chelsea cannot do without both John Terry and Lampard out (vis a vis England).

Face facts, the referee completely ruined a decent final. The key decison which he got terribly wrong was Denilson's yellow card. The 'offside' could have gone either way but when you remove a central midfielders ability to tackle by issuing him a very early yellow, you also put more focus on equally less threatening challenges. Essien and Diarra could easily have walked if the bastard Webb was consistent in his ways.

Very sinister.

In addition to the sinister bits, Sky chose to make a lot of the 'brawl' yet when Gary Lewin was the first physio to reach John Terry no mention was made of his selflessness - neither was much made of those Chelsea tossers who kept on thowing objects at Fabregas- what did the bastard Webb do ....nothing.

Actually if you tuned into to SSN after the game, they were praising Gary Lewin for his quick work.

Great final imnho. It had everything. Goals, good football from both sides despite what all the media outlets would have you believe. Lots of chances. Both sides desereve credit for what was a highly entertaining game.

However a game which should be remembered for the class of Arsenals youngsters and the clinical finishing of the best striker in the land (at the moment!!!!) will be remembered for some unsavoury incidents.

What happened at the end was distgusting behavior from both sets of players. Toure completely over reacted to Mikel's shirt tugging and then a mass brawl insued. A predictable outcome with lots of cards and a few of sendings off.

The incident with John Terry was sickening. I recon Diaby had his foot 5 feet off the ground when Terry tried to head the ball. This was in no way intentional and the reaction of players, staff and fans was a credit to football. It also appears that Terry is OK which is what really matters. What I just don't understand is why the ref awarded Arsenal a goal kick. Any where else on the pitch and chelsea get a free kick (direct or indirect I am not sure) for dangerous play in the part of Diaby. However because it is in Arsenals box his head is seen as fair game. Still as I said that is unimportant his health is.

Chelsea were certainly stronger in the second half but a draw would probably have been a fairer result even if neither team wanted extra time. Arsenal had the best of the first half but chelsea certainly made up for that in the second with Lampard and schevchenko both hitting the woodwork.

I sort of a gree with GMan that the ref was far to whistle happy and produced cards for a lot which maybe didn't warrant it. However I thought he dealt with the brawl in the only way he could. He took his time consulted his assistants and made the decisions. RIght or wrong I do not know how else he could have handled it.

GREAT FINAL!

Arsenal's younger players played as if it ws a sunday afternoon kickabout.. no fear, cut and thrust, one touch football which for much of the first half threatened to overwhelm chelsea's hardened campaingners

chelsea however held on, equalised after walcotts early goal and stole it at the end... is Drogba the best striker in the land..??? YES!

the fracas at the end was once again a blemish on the whole game... TalkFootball/eusa_naughty.gif

arsenal for all their verve and excellence still have a discipline problem . Toure being the captain was the most culpable, but Fabregas for all his genuine talent and excellence is extremely volatile and seems to think he's not accountable for his words and actions... Adebayor shouldnt have been sent off, but in the melee, the linesman who informed webb erred and should be pulled up for it.

I enjoyed the game tremendously though... traore, walcott, diaby and denilson really impressed me...

Very entertaining game, if not for all the right reasons. Congratulations to Chelsea on their victory, and to Theo Walcott on scoring his first goal for Arsenal - let's hope he scores plenty for England.... TalkFootball/35.gif

VickyTheGooner- 02-26-2007
I am very proud of the way our boys played yesterday, and it does bode very well for the future. Particular praise for Traore, who I thought was magnificent.

I pretty much agree with all that Droy has said on this game. However, looking at that picture, and from what I saw yesterday I am not sure whether Diaby had his foot high or whather Terry had his head low (obviously what the ref thought). However, it is clear that it was unintentional, Diaby was visibly shaken, and I particularly liked that Essien almost immediately came up to Diaby to pat him on ths shoulder as if to reassure him that they all knew it was an accident. Respect indeed to Gary Lewin, for steaming on the pitch and, by the sounds of it, pulling Terry's tongue from his throat. I'm very glad that Terry is okay.

As for the fight...I haven't had the stomach to watch the replays. I know that I saw Ade steam in like a madman, saw Mikel throw punches, and saw Frank lose his nut. Assuming that Toure's red was the right decision, then Arsene seriously needs to consider whether or not he has the cool to be captain in these games. Ade showed by his refusal to leave the pitch, and his brushing of of Lewin, that he REALLY needs to curb his temper. I do think that Lampard deserved a red too, and I don't blame the ref for this incident, I blame the players for not holding it together. I'm also sad that this game won't be remembered for the great game, for Theo's first (and fantastic goal) or for a magnificent display by our young team, but will remembered as another brawl. Very dissapointing way for the match to end.

Final point - Drogba's first was offside...but we were lucky in that Chelsea hit the woodwork twice, and had the edge in the second half, so at the end of the day I suppose they deserved the win.

Well done Chelsea TalkFootball/cheers.gif

Congratulations to Chelsea on winning 2007's first trophy.

For what is viewed by many as the fourth most important trophy it was a cracker of a game that both teams wanted to win.

Walcott scored a lovely first goal which shuold give him confidence ...... but I've read somewhere that that was his last game before he undergoes an operation. TalkFootball/howdidthathappen.gif Is that true ? If so, then it's a bit of a shame as maybe it's the goal he needed to give him that bit of confidence he seems to have been lacking a tad.

Drogba's winning goal was of the highest order. The way he rose and got such power and direction on the header was almost like a throwback to an 'old-fashioned English centre-forward'.

A worthy goal to win the competition.

Just as shame it was spoiled by such scenes at the end. A complete lack of discipline and for the second week running Fabregas has gone down in my estimations. The way I looked at it, Lampard went over to try and diffuse a situation that Fabregas only wanted to inflame. TalkFootball/eusa_naughty.gif

GUNNERMAN- 02-26-2007
Fabregas is going higher and higher in my estimation as a true battling Gooner. Adebayor got sent off for nothing and anyone would have reacted in the same way. Much is being made of what is comparatively a minor incident.

I would look at it the same way, and i'm no fan of Fat Frank... TalkFootball/boxing.gif

All the hype about Fabregas and his undoubted talent is perhaps going to his head..
