Bolton last night managed to do something no British side has ever done - win a game at Red Star Belgrade.

It is true that Red Star are no longer the force they used to be, but full credit to Megson for getting a result in such a hostile atmposhere with what was a reserve side. No Anelka, no Davies, no Diouf, no Guthrie, no Nolan, no Campo, no Hunt, no Gardner, no O'Brien and no Jussi.

Hopefully, unless results really conspire against us in the next round of games, we've done enought to squeeze into the final 32.

.... and hopefully the first choice XI will have benefited from the rest and will be up for hammering the pie-eaters on Sunday.

Excellent result for notloB. Should progress into the knock-out stages now. TalkFootball/trink40.gif

I used to have a bit of a soft spot for the Eastern bloc, and in particular Red Star Belgrade, in the early 90's.

Dragan Stojković, Dejan Savićević, Darko Pančev, Robert Prosinečki. All excellent players.

They were always good to watch. Well, except against Marseille, European Cup final 1990, or maybe it was 1991. Which was one of the dourest European Cup finals ever.

With all the trouble in that region, it put me right off the whole thing. The decline of the football in that area is a shame though. Although Croatia seem to be thriving.

There's a book in the library I work in called Travels In Eastern European Football (or something similar) I have been fancying reading it for some time, I might grab it on Monday.

Anyway, what I wanted to post was: Well done Bolton. Despite the fact that Red Star are more like Fallen Star, this result is still impressive.

What do Bolton need to get to the last 32 now? A point? Shouldn't be a problem.

I think notloB have played all their games, they are waiting on results of the final two matches.
