I used to have a bit of a soft spot for the Eastern bloc, and in particular Red Star Belgrade, in the early 90's.
Dragan Stojković, Dejan Savićević, Darko Pančev, Robert Prosinečki. All excellent players.
They were always good to watch. Well, except against Marseille, European Cup final 1990, or maybe it was 1991. Which was one of the dourest European Cup finals ever.
With all the trouble in that region, it put me right off the whole thing. The decline of the football in that area is a shame though. Although Croatia seem to be thriving.
There's a book in the library I work in called Travels In Eastern European Football (or something similar) I have been fancying reading it for some time, I might grab it on Monday.
Anyway, what I wanted to post was: Well done Bolton. Despite the fact that Red Star are more like Fallen Star, this result is still impressive.
What do Bolton need to get to the last 32 now? A point? Shouldn't be a problem.
