that was some cup tie, the game that had almost everything. 3-bloody-3!

I can't believe we threw that game away, but on the other hand as soon as Berbatov went off, I knew the wheels were about to fall off, just as they had done against Arsenal in the Carling Cup semis. I have never seen a Spurs team more reliant on one player in my entire life, he is our focal point, everything good goes through him, and if he's not there then we're pretty clueless and can't keep hold of the ball.

fair play to Chelsea, for their never-say-die attitude, and Mourinho, for in the end only having 2 defenders on the field of play, he went for it and it paid off for him. we just ran out of steam, and ran out of guile.

if only Lennon or Defoe had score either of the chances they had early in the second half to make it 4-1. it's not the Spurs way though, we have to bloody throw it away and go to a replay!

I have to say that Spurs got what they deserved.

They defended deep the entire game and in the first half it worked brilliantly as they always had an outlet in Berbatov.

They always seemed to pick up every clearance.

In the second half they continued to defend deep but with Mido and Defo up front there was no one there to pick up the pieces and Chelsea were able to apply a lot of pressure which eventually told.

Some great play by Cech kept us in the game and a fantastic header from drogba and great volley from Kalou to set up the replay.

Tottenham could have been home and dry in this game and let chelsea back into it by taking off their best player. Chelsea tactics in the end were desperate as you only see Mourinho throw caution to the wind if there is nothing left to lose.

MartyrToTheCause- 03-12-2007
Berbatov was taken off because he had a groin pull, plus we have a million games coming up, like everyone else at the moment, so we need our players at max fitness if possible.

Luckily (after hearing the half-time analysis) I missed the first half. The second half though was an absolute cracker.

Chelsea did what they've done sooo many times over the past 3 years - Tottenham were piling on the pressure for the first 10 minutes of the second half then BANG - a goal on the counter attack - and what a goal it was !!!! No-one expected Shevchenko to shoot from there .......... and those who did would surely not have expected ito to fly into the top corner with such power. In that split second we saw just why he cost £30m.

Just a couple of minutes later another counter-attack, another fabulous goal - this time from SWP.

A late, coolly taken, penalty form Robbie Keane set up a bit of a finish but truth be told, Spurs didn't really look like breaking down the Chelsea defence a second time.

Something to note though - SWP had pretty much been written-off after such a poor season whilst Aaron Lennon's stock has, rightfully so, risen after a great season.

..... but you'd have never have thought it after last night. Lennon continually gave the ball away and ran straight into defenders whilst SWP laid the ball on for Shevchenko and scored one himself.

I wonder what was going through the watching McLaren's head ? I just hope he doesn't judge Lennon on last night's game alone.

Finally, it looks as if the FA have got the cup final they planned .... erm ..... I mean wanted. rolleyes.gif

Chelsea's Frank Lampard was attacked by a fan at the end of his side's win at Tottenham.

The Blues' 2-1 win at White Hart Lane was marred by the attempted attack by the fan at the final whistle.

The supporter ran onto the pitch at the final whistle and aimed a punch at Lampard as Chelsea celebrated their progress into the semi-finals.

Lampard managed to duck the punch before stewards managed to overpower the supporter.

England international Lampard admitted he had to be on his guard to avoid being hit by the fan.

"I saw the guy coming and wanted to keep my eye on him because if I turn my back, I thought I might get one on me," Lampard said.

"I just ducked and the stewards got to him. The way he ran at me I think he'd had a few drinks.

"I don't think he should have been on the pitch in the first place, but you can understand there's a lot of emotion in a match like this.

"There is a lot of feeling but we celebrated in front of our own fans and for the whole game we had taken a lot of stick.

"If you can't enjoy a victory in front of your own fans it's a bad day.

"People give us stick for a whole game and then complain when we celebrate. That's too much of a one-way street for me. That's not fair.

"When someone gets on the pitch there's not a lot you can do."

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho played down the incident saying it was nothing serious.

"It could have been worse and the incident with the fan was nothing special," said Mourinho.

"The game was so correct that maybe on the last whistle the security people slept a little bit, but nothing happened so it's okay.

"Frank is happy with the victory."

Good on Chelsea for not making a meal of it. However, Spurs' stewards need a good kicking for allowing it to happen in the first place.

It's dickheads like that prick why we will never get terracing again. Great duck by Lampard though. TalkFootball/boxing.gif TalkFootball/giggle[1].gif

I was surprised, Lumpy didn't want to get stuck in. Maybe Adebayor paid the prat TalkFootball/giggle[1].gif

But, too much of it has been happening recently. The call for terracing will start if this continues. And if the guy had a knife on him I dread to think what could've happened. Let's hope they ban him for life

TalkFootball/eusa_naughty.gif to the spurs stewards for letting it get to that stage...

actually the spurs supporter should have been hitting his own players... after letting a 3-1 lead slip away...

If someone wants to jump the barriers then they will. It's not the fault of the stewards (necessarily) as the person might jump the barrier between stewards and there wouldn't be time for him to be caught.

I hate seeing that kind of thing happening, I'm glad he didn't connect with Lampard. it's a rather embarassing incident!

is it any wonder that this happens though - when the fans watch on as players themselves go at each other on the field. I don't condone violence, but it's creeping into football again, and it's not good at all.

anyway TalkFootball/35.gif to Chelsea - Shevchenko and Wright-Phillips, both goals were top drawer! who said Shevchenko was past it and a failure? wrong wrong wrong! Chelsea just edged it for me, and deserved the win on the night, we threw away our chance of being in the semis in the first game.

never mind, there's always the grea-*test*-('") competition on earth still to play for! bring on the UEFA Cup! TalkFootball/giggle[1].gif

focusing on the positive side of the match ( if you can call Chelsea winning positive ), Sheva's goal had my jaw on the floor. TalkFootball/jawdrop[1].gif

superb goal for Shevchenko, someone (Young Poo Lee) should have closed him down quicker, but take nothing away, he rocketed it into the top corner, Robinson had no hope in hell of saving it.

Pinesol13- 03-21-2007
Lee is absolute crap, in my opinion. Almost as bad as Sun Jihai for Man City. I watched two City games recently and literally everytime Sun got the ball he gave it away.

I read that Drogba might get in trouble with the FA - A report suggests that Chelsea striker Didier Drogba could face action from the Football Association for his part in the fracas that marred his side's FA Cup sixth round replay success at Tottenham

If this is true, it's absolutely ridiculous. I don't think he hit anybody, but I do think he went after the fan who attacked Lampard. But c'mon, if some random wackjob tried to knock out your team mate you have to understand that there's going to be a reaction from the players.

Mr Parr- 03-21-2007
I think both Drogba and Cole allegedly stamped on the fan who tried to whack Lampard, whilst the stewards were restraining him on the floor.

If that's true then they're out of order.

However, if they punched him square in the face whilst he was on his feet then I'd say fair play to them.

It's like if I'm out in town with mates and one of them get attacked then I'll stand up for him and go at them. But if the police turn up and pin him to the ground, I wouldn't be cowardly enough to stamp on him when he can't hit back.
