Benfica came from behind to defeat FC Porto 2-1 in the Portuguese Cup final on Sunday and effectively ended UEFA Cup champion's aspirations for a second consecutive treble.
Benfica started brightly as they created the first three-scoring chances of the match with Simao Sabrosa, Nuno Gomes and Miguel all coming close.
However, it was the Portuguese Champions who took the lead just before the half time whistle as Derlei knocked in a rebound. Benfica's goalkeeper was unable to hold on to Deco's long range free-kick and Derlei was first to react and gave Porto the lead.
Derlei had a chance to put the match out of reach early in the second half, but his shot hit the post and stayed out.
Benfica pulled level in the 58th minute as Takis Fysass finished off a great run down the left flank by poking home his second effort. Fysass played a one-two with Simao Sabrosa and rounded goalkeeper Nuno, and after his initial effort was blocked by Nuno Valente, the Greek international knocked in the rebound with his left foot.
Soon after the goal, FC Porto's Jorge Costa was sent off for a second bookable offence and his side were down to ten men.
Nonetheless, Benfica were unable to break down the 10-man Porto until extra time when Simao Sabrosa headed in Zlatko Zahovic's cross after 104 minutes of play.
With this win, Benfica claims their first trophy in eight years when they downed Sporting Lisbon 3-1 in the 1995/96 Portuguese Cup final.
Benfica dedicated this victory to the memory of striker Miklos Feher as the entire squad gathered around a giant photo of the Hungarian in centeral midfield after the match.
